I would say overall my oldest son is adjusting well to life with a new baby.  He certainly does not like the loss of some of my attention (read: he no longer has my complete and undivided attention and in his world, this is unacceptable).  That being said, he’s getting used to sharing my attention, and with a lot of continued reassurance and patience on our part I think he will settle in to the new reality.  Sometimes we catch a little hint of jealousy on his part (completely understandable and expected), and try to encourage him to express these feelings rather than acting out and misbehaving.  I would say that message has been heard loud and clear.
Yesterday I went out without husband or either child to get some grocery shopping done and pick up some clothes for the family. I was gone for almost three hours (yes, this was bliss after a long week of my dear husband working a lot of overtime).  When I got home, Jaden came up to me and said “Mommy, I missed you a lot. Lucas missed you too.  Well, actually he didn’t miss you, he missed his milk. But I missed you.  A lot.”
