Laundry - The Neverending Saga

Monday is laundry day in our household. So are Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, and these are not “single load” days - so far today I’m on load number four. I cannot fathom how three people generate this much laundry - especially since one of them is pregnant with a very limited wardrobe (and though my clothes are bigger, they’re not that big…). Of course, another household member is still working on potty training* and can go through a pair or three of pants in a day. I think this is a dilemma faced by homemakers since the dawn of the home (or the washing machine), but I still just do not understand it. In talking with other moms, I know I’m not alone. So just what can we do about it to get out from underneath all the smelly socks and damp, stinky towels?!? There’s no easy answer.

Today I pondered the nature of all housework - not only that it’s never done, but almost as soon as you’ve completed a task it seems as though it’s time to do it again. I try to allocate a certain (small) amount of time each day for housework, when Jaden is watching Sesame Street, or playing on his own. Perhaps it’s because I do some every day I feel like I’m always cleaning (because I guess, I am always cleaning). I need job satisfaction!! I need to look and see how beautiful my work is - housework is NOT conducive to this, especially with a three and a half year old. I also lament the good old days, when I went to work, did my job and came home feeling content about my day (most days), and also done with my work until 8am the following morning. Sure my house was a mess, but I was young, carefree (read: childless) and it just didn’t matter.

I don’t have any tips for this - I’m at a complete loss. Call it late pregnancy hormones, or just plain blah-ness. Housework stinks. But of course, we all know this don’t we?  I guess there is a point to this post other than whining after all:  don’t fret, you’re not alone. :)

Monthly Reviews

I’ve noticed that whenever I add new monthly book and music recommendations, they are not readily visible since they are on separate pages. I guess I still have a bit to learn about WordPress (though in reference to an earlier post regarding my husband doing the technical stuff, I’m happy to say I’m showing him […]

Stinky Toes Make for Happy Children?

With only one child and thus no frame of reference, it’s difficult to say what is a normal behaviour or reaction: having no such frame of reference, I feel totally confident in saying that I deem our household to be fairly typical. Oh sure, we may enjoy childish humour a little more than […]

The Beginning

As with any new endeavour, this site may take some time to get up and running so I hope if you stumble across it, you’ll come back and visit again at least a few times while we work out the logistics of WordPress etc. It is my first attempt at writing a blog completely […]
